Who says the diving stops in January?

For those of you who may not remember, Just Add H2O has now moved to the intersection of Ironwood and SR23. Our new address is 17911 SR 23, South bend, IN 46635. If you have trouble finding us please call 574-217-7724 and we will help you get here.

In spite of all the stresses of moving, Just Add H2O has not forgotten about the most important part of our business...Scuba Diving. On Saturday, January 7th, I took 5 eager divers up to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan to experience their first chamber dive. The 6-person hyperbaric chamber is the only chamber in operation in the Michiana area that is available for simulated dives. Our five divers along with a trained chamber tender entered the chamber for a dive to 100 feet to experience the laws of diving physics and a little bit of nitrogen narcosis. Everyone had a blast and pictures are available on the Michiana Divers Facebook page.

We are holding another chamber dive on the 28th of January is anyone is interested. Please call 574-217-7724 to sign up.

Happy diving, keep warm, and stay up to date by joining our facebook group or liking the Just Add H2O Facebook page.

Michiana Divers December Meetup Success

I want to begin this post by thanking every single person who attended the first meetup of the Michaina Divers Club. The purpose of this group is to bring local divers together to talk, eat, and socialize with like-minded people. No dues will ever be charged and there are no obligations of any kind.
For our first meeting, we decided to invite Cayman island representative Jeff Ginther to share the wonders of our favored dive destination, Cayman Brac. Cayman Brac boasts 59+ dive sites including the Russian warship, the Captain Keith Tibbetts. Kathy will be leading Just Add H2O's 2nd trip there on February 19th. Stop in the shop or call Kathy to sign up, it's not too late.
It's also not too late to sign up for the Michiana Divers Club chamber dive trip. Every Saturday in the month of January, we will be offering trips to the recompression chamber in Kalamazoo, MI. For only $65 you can experiences nitrogen narcosis on your dive to 120 feet. See the gas laws at work and bring along your own dive computer of gauge to test for accuracy. We need at least 4 people for each trip so call now to check for availability.
If you can't make it on one of our chamber dive trips, don't worry. We will also be holding another local meeting at the Zion UCC on East Wayne Street in South Bend on Friday, January 13th. The meeting will be held at 7pm and will feature a surprise guest speaker, snack table, and friendly chatter in the company of other local divers. Join us!
Thank you again to all our new members of the Michiana Divers Club. Email updates will be sent periodically. If you don't receive our emails then drop by the shop, call, or email us to sign up. We hope to see all of you again soon.

Happy Diving!

Hints for ear clearing:

Avoid dairy products, alcohol and tobacco before diving. These products increase our production of mucus which can cause clearing issues.

Clear your ears early and often. Try practicing the valsalva maneuver prior to diving to make it easier while diving.

JR Aquatics had a fun dive on Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver Indiana. We borrowed a boat from the academy and made our way out to pick up the buoy located on the revluc. However, when we got there, the buoy was gone. Someone had obviously taken it. For those of you who don't know what the revluc is, it is an old wooden boat that was owned by the Culver Academies. It sank many years ago and has been a great diving location for our campers. We usually buoy it for the summer so it is easy to find. Revluc (Culver spelled backwards) is located on the Northeast side of the lake. In recent years, a small plane was relocated near the revluc to make it easy to find as well. Everybody had a great time and diving visibility was pretty good. For more information about these wrecks, don't hesitate to call the shop.
Hi Kathy,

John and I went diving in Lake Michigan with Capt. Mike Tapper (N'Pursuit Adventure Charters/East Chicago Marina) on Saturday. Always pretty easy to find and the parking is free and not too far from the boat. About 1 hour 15 minutes from the east side of Niles.
This is our third diving trip to Lake Michigan, with great weather and 1 foot waves.Surface water temp was 65 degrees with temps at wreck depth coming in around 56 degrees.Since we had a new diver on board, Capt. Mike picked two good dives - the Tacoma ( the 73' long wooden steam powered tug) and the Material Service Barge ( the 240' long steel hulled motor barge with open cargo holds) . Six of divers in our group and Capt. Mike has always had a Divemaster on board who keeps a watchful eye on us.
Visibility at the wreck sites was around 12-15 feet. Waters were very calm at depth. The Zebra Mussels abound with Gobies ready to greet us everywhere we went.We did see some big bass down there this time.... that was a treat!Capt. Mike said he would continue his dive adventure charters through the end of September.
